Gale Chester Whittington, Gay Author

To spite his name, Gale Whittington was
born male February 6, 1948, in Holyoke,
Colorado. His father was a fundamentalist
Nazarene preacher with a Christian radio
program, his mother, a gospel-recording
artist.

After two-years fighting for gay rights
on the streets of San Francisco 1968-1969, (months before the
Stonewall uprising
)--now documented in his memoir, BEYOND
NORMAL: The Birth of Gay Pride, currently available in paperback
and as an eBook, Gale worked long, hard hours operating a Denver
pet store/bird breeding facility (the legendary Colorado Seed and
Pet
), which he owned for twenty-eight years.

Two long-term lovers have annoyed the man, one for five years, the
latter for eighteen. Gale drove them both insane and the relationships
ended in “divorce” once they got well and came to their senses.

Subsequently, Gale has been looking for love in some pretty scary
places. Like in prison. Read all about it in his first book,
The Happy
Campers (Torquere Press, Nov. 2005-2006--Soon to be republished),
a semi-autobiographical novel about murder, mystery, romance
, and
sunbathing
in the Texarkana Federal Prison Camp.

Those who are wondering how a fine upstanding former radical
c
ould find himself in prison will find the answer in his paranormal
novel,
True Chameleon. Carol Woods, Senior Editor at Timberwolf
Press and contest judge, noted, “This is a story of human frailty and
creative coping.” In the book, an injured lizard is captured and
shipped to a Denver pet shop, owned by a male couple, who begin to
mirror health and mental problems of the chameleon, somewhat like
the
Portrait of Dorian Gray, except neither lizard nor man are spared
the downward spiral.

In his formative years, Gale held the title Feature Editor of  his high
school newspaper,
The Ramrod, for three years in a row. During his
late sixties a
ctivism in California, he wrote for underground
newspapers,
The Berkeley Barb & The Berkeley Tribe, along with San
Francisco’s
Vector magazine. Gale returned to writing full time in the
year 2000, working on novels, short stories, poetry,
essays, and his
memoir. He penned a regular column about fish care in Tulsa’s 2003
MACA Pet News and has reveived numerous awards for his writing,
including six from the prestigious
Oklahoma Writers' Federation, Inc.
(OWFI) a
nd one from Writer's Digest. He wishes to thank Tulsa
Crossroadswriters critique group for their invaluable editing
assistance.

Gale currently lives on fifteen acres in the Oklahoma woods, where
he writes, floats in a pool, worships the sun, and raises heirloom
varieties of turkeys, guineas, peafowl, chickens, guppies, goldfish,
and wildflowers. He believes the world is a living hell and someday a
handsome fairy tale commoner (he gave up on the prince) will arrive
to make it all worthwhile. But if not, he’ll get by, because even alone,
he now resides in a country paradise, far from the madness of the
crowd.

Now If he could just stop the animals (wild vs tame) from eating each
other . . .
