Stop the world! I wanta get on!

Gambling is my passion.
It’s better than love.
At least in the casino, you
know
you’re going to lose.
It’s the passion that matters,
the playing of the game.
With love, you always plan to win, but never do.
When gambling, you expect to lose,
so if you hit the jackpot,
the whole world seems sweet.
The euphoria of winning once
is worth the pain of losing ninety-nine other times.
But comes the day you run out of things to hock.
Only then does the addiction leave a bitter aftertaste,
not due to your being broke or having hit bottom,
but because you have nothing left with which to
play the game.
And yet, even after losing everything,
you win.
You reclaim what you lost as a child:
freedom from responsibility.
The gambling may end,
but you’ll always miss the passion.
