NEW LGBT HISTORY FILM! 'ON THESE SHOULDERS WE STAND!
by IMPACT STORIES!
June 5, 2009.

.
.
Good news! Film director and community activist Glenne
McElhinney (pictured below on the right) of Impact Stories (
www.
impactstories.org) and her
editor, Philip Harrison,
contacted me a couple of
days ago to get permission
to include a picture of me in
a documentary they are
making about early Los
Angeles’ LGBT activism.

Philip told me, “I am editing
a film (
On These Shoulders
We Stand
) about GLBT
history in Los Angeles. We
are trying to include a short
section about a
protest that
was held in Los Angeles as
a result of your firing from
the States Steamship
Company (in 1969 San

Francisco). I am writing to
request to use the photo of
you included on your website as part of the film with a title
mentioning your name. This is an important moment in GLBT
history and we very much want to include it in the film. One of the
points of doing the documentary is to make it clear that there was
a vibrant activist community in California before Stonewall.
Everyone always says that was the birthplace but there was so
much going on out here before that.”

The documentary is called
On these Shoulders We Stand and is
due to be screened at LA Outfest July 11 and 18.

Here's a blurb from www.impactstories.org about the film: “Not
everything began with Stonewall.
On These Shoulders We Stand
portrays an historical account of early gay life and activism in Los
Angeles told by the people who lived it. (The documentary)
chronicles the lives of ten elders, from their early years to their
coming out, to their groundbreaking activism for the rights of all
LGBT people. Contrary to popular belief that the struggle for gay
rights was confined to New York City and San Francisco, the film
profiles several Los Angeles activists who helped change the
course of both California and LGBT history.”

2004 photo
of gay pioneer
Rev Troy Perry,
founder of MCC

The LA activist linked to me is Rev. Troy Perry, who founded the
world’s first gay house of worship, Metropolitan Community
Church (MCC). In 1969, when I was fired in San Francisco, he and
his congregation took to the streets to form a picket line in front of
the LA division of States Steamship Company a.k.a. States Line in
solidarity with our SF protest. All of this happened before
Stonewall, mind you!

Glenne, best known for her involvement with
Dykes on Bikes, told
me that this is only the first of several films to come.

I am thrilled that someone is finally documenting the activism of
California’s gay pioneers. Check out the project’s website:

I watched Comedy Central’s new TV show Tosh.O last night,
which is supposed to be all about Web videos. I love the humor of
Daniel Todd, but so far, this show sucks! Even an appearance by
Dave Attell couldn’t save the show. The problem? The videos
Daniel picked were either gross or stupid. We have ten more
weeks of this program on the summer schedule, so let’s hope it
gets better!

GOODE FAMILY DEMEANS LESBIANS!
FALL TV SCHEDULE!
I’M IN LOVE WITH CRAIG OLEJNIK, THE LISTENER!
June 4, 2009.
I don’t much care for the way the new animated “comedy” on
ABC,
The Goode Family (a series which attempts to make fun of
political correctness), stereotypes lesbians by portraying them as
radical butched-up crazies. Although the program is from
animation royalty, Mike Judge, best known for producing
King of
the Hill
and Beavis and Butt-head, he misses the mark with this
one.

The “Animals or Else” group portrayed on Wednesday’s show
demeaned gays in general and lesbians in particular. And the
show isn’t even funny. Where the hell is GLAAD? The issue is
probably moot, though. The program is so dumb and boring, it’ll
probably be canceled before anything can be done.

Rapper Eminem has come a long way since his early homophobic
days. He told a reporter he was “thrilled” with the way they pulled
off the
MTV Movie Awards Bruno “stunt.” He added he’s a big fan
of Sacha Baron Cohen and that once he and his body guards
returned to his hotel room, they “laughed over and over for three
hours.”

Gay-friendly Joy Behar of The

funniest women on day time TV.
Today’s Friday Comedy Montage
was hilarious, especially the bit

they showed the various pictures

Washington crossed the Delaware,
at The Last Supper, and other
places that made fun of her age.

Accidentally on Purpose on CBS, and Kelsey
Grammer in
Hank on ABC.

New dramas with a touch of comedy include
Eastwick on ABC,

science fiction and fantasy series will be
Day One on NBC, Flash
Forward
and V on ABC; Human Target and Past Life  on Fox, and
The Vampire Diaries on CW, owned by CBS and Time Warner.
And, don’t forget Jay Leno’s NBC comedy talk show at 10 p.m.

.......Craig Olejnik as Toby Logan on The Listener. There's nothing like a man in uniform!

I’m in love! Even though the plot to the premier of NBC’s The
Listener Thursday night was a bit thin, I couldn’t stop watching
the mesmerizing blue eyes of Craig Olejnik. He plays Toby Logan,
a 25-year-old telepathic paramedic who uses his secret ability to
help people in crisis.

Apparently, the show is a hit in Canada, where over twelve

vague, saying that it’ll be on the fall schedule and little else.

Democratic Governor John Lynch signed a new law yesterday
making New Hampshire the sixth state to legalize same sex
marriage. Lynch, who had up to now only been in favor of civil
unions, said he had listened to “compelling arguments that a
separate system is not an equal system. Today, we are standing
up for the liberties of same sex couples by making clear that they
will receive the same rights, responsibilities, and respect, under
New Hampshire law.” Right on! Here’s a

Nate Berkus

The story of Oprah’s favorite home designer, Nate Berkus, is
amazing. At the age of 24, he founded his own company, Nate
Berkus Associates in 1995 Chicago. Six years after opening the
firm, Berkus had dinner with a family friend who happened to be
an executive producer of
Oprah, and the rest is history.

After making dozens of household makeover appearances on the

Oprah in 2005 to tell a tragic story. He and
his lover, Fernando Bengoechea, had been on vacation in Sri
Lanka when the deadly 2004 tsunami hit, killing over 200,000
people in South Asia. When their hut washed away, they were
forced to cling to a telephone pole and each other for 30 seconds
before being separated.

Bengoechea’s body was never found. The tragic account touched
millions watching the show. It was also Berkus’ first time talking
publicly about his homosexuality.

He won a Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Visibility Award for his
courage. “After almost dying, you realize that your word and your
actions are all that you have in the end, and you’re forced to think
a lot more about what your impact will be when you’re gone,” he
said. Berkus has received many design honors, including
Chicago
Social Magazine
Design Director (2000), House Beautiful’s Next
Wave Design Talent (2003), and
Craine Business Magazine’s 40
Under 40 To Watch (2003).

In the fall of 2005, Nate published his first
book,
Home Rules: Transform the Place

SHIRTLESS TWILIGHT STAR CAM GIGANDET PHOTOS!
I’M A CELEBRITY NEEDS TO GET OUT OF HERE!

June 3, 2009
I gave up my usual CBS comedy line up to watch NBC’s
I’m a
Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!
Monday night, even though one
of its “stars” is religious fundamentalist homophobe Stephen
Baldwin (who’s main claim to fame is
The Usual Suspects and a
brother who can act). He recently appeared on
Dr Phil to preach
about the perils of gay marriage. Anyway, the new show was a big
waste of time! I can’t believe it’s on four nights a week! At least, it
only lasts one month. I mean, Patti Blagojevich? The wife of Rod?
Really? How fitting that she got sent down the river in the first ten
minutes of the show and almost drowned.

Photo of Spencer
and Heidi Pratt,
super brats from
The Hills

The premier episode was saved by eye candy but none too bright
couple Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag-Spencer (married at the
hip stars of MTV's
The Hills), Frangela (comedy duo Frances
Callier and Angela V. Shelton from the movie
He's Just Not That
Into You
, and the VH1’s Best Week Ever), and crazy but gay-
friendly Janice Dickenson (the “world’s first supermodel”).

Best Week Ever' s

Well, maybe “saved” is too big a word. This show should ask the
public for absolution! I first realized that after thirty minutes into
the program, when the host said, “After the break, Spencer and
Heidi head for the hills!” and fifteen minutes later my suspicions
were confirmed when Spencer announced, “Good news! We’re
having Sanjaya for dinner. I’m going to cook him alive.” What the
hell happened? Did all the writers come down with Costa Rican
jungle fever?

Photo of
Janice
Dickenson,
The World's

This program should’ve been called, I’m Still Not Going to be a
Celebrity after this Show Tanks
. Tuesday night’s show (Little else
was on) substantiated all my trepidations and suspicions that
fundamentalist homophobes are tragically stupid. And really,
folks, all those faux threats from Heidi and Spencer about quitting
got old fast. Not sure if those two are homophobic, but they sure
are dumb. I hope they get voted off soon! Not that I’ll be watching
or anything.

I was busy reading on the series’ “official” website when I realized
it was out of date. All the info was about a version of the program
aired in Britain last year. Why don’t these people get their act
together and update their stuff?

The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien was much improved last
night. He got into some topical stuff and was pretty funny. His bit
making light of Twitter was priceless! Maybe he’ll make it after all.

It was disappointing how the mainstream press tended to ignore
President Obama’s proclamation of June as LGBT Month. At least
our gal friends on
The View talked about it, as they did former Vice-
President Cheney’s speech approving gay marriage at the state
level.
CNN had blurbs about both, but I found little about either
story on network news programs.

I’ll never understand the hypocrisy of anti-abortionist activists
who think unborn life is sacred but not that of adults who disagree
with them. What a sad commentary it is that one of those
misguided fools killed 67 year-old Dr. George Tiller because Tiller
was recently acquitted of bogus charges that he performed illegal
abortions.

OBAMA’S LGBT PRIDE MONTH PROCLAMATION FULL TEXT!
June 2, 2009
As if to silence the growing chorus of gay
critics who say he has not kept his
promises to the GLBT community,
President Barack Obama shocked
everyone yesterday by declaring June Gay
Pride Month! Right on! Here is the
complete
transcript:

“BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Forty years ago, patrons and supporters

of the Stonewall Inn in New York City
resisted police harassment that had
become all too common for members
of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender (LGBT) community. Out of this resistance, the LGBT
rights movement in America was born. During, we commemorate
the events of June 1969 and commit to achieving equal justice
under law for LGBT Americans.

LGBT Americans have made, and continue to make, great and
lasting contributions that continue to strengthen the fabric of
American society. There are many well-respected LGBT leaders in
all professional fields, including the arts and business
communities. LGBT Americans also mobilized the Nation to
respond to the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic and have played a
vital role in broadening this country's response to the HIV
pandemic." (continued after the photo)

Company two months
before the Stonewall
riots. We've come
a long way from 1969,
when I was fired for
being openly gay in,
of all places,
San Francisco.

Marsha-Ann
M. Wolf Sebay-HIll

"Due in no small part to the determination and dedication of the
LGBT rights movement, more LGBT Americans are living their
lives openly today than ever before. I am proud to be the first
President to appoint openly LGBT candidates to Senate-
confirmed positions in the first 100 days of an Administration.
These individuals embody the best qualities we seek in public
servants, and across my Administration -- in both the White House
and the Federal agencies -- openly LGBT employees are doing
their jobs with distinction and professionalism.

The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress, but
there is more work to be done. LGBT youth should feel safe to
learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and
seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and
respect.

My Administration has partnered with the LGBT community to
advance a wide range of initiatives. At the international level, I
have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize
homosexuality around the world. Here at home, I continue to
support measures to bring the full spectrum of equal rights to
LGBT Americans. These measures include enhancing hate crimes
laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples,
outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption
rights, and ending the existing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in a
way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security.
We must also commit ourselves to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic
by both reducing the number of HIV infections and providing care
and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS across the
United States.

These issues affect not only the LGBT community, but also our
entire Nation. As long as the promise of equality for all remains
unfulfilled, all Americans are affected. If we can work together to
advance the principles upon which our Nation was founded, every
American will benefit. During LGBT Pride Month, I call upon the
LGBT community, the Congress, and the American people to work
together to promote equal rights for all, regardless of sexual
orientation or gender identity.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United
States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the
Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim
June 2009 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride
Month. I call upon the people of the United States to turn back
discrimination and prejudice everywhere it exists.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day
of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the
Independence of the United States of America the two hundred
and thirty-third.”

CHENEY GROWS A PAIR, COMES OUT FOR GAY MARRIAGE!
GAY MTV MOVIE AWARDS, EMINEM, and BRUNO’S NAKED
BUTT! PHOTOS!
June 2, 2009

Photo of Cohen's Bruno thrilling the MTV Movie Awards audience with over the top antics

The censors beeped so much of Eminem’s performance on the
2009 MTV Movie Awards Sunday night as he spit out the lyrics to
his name-dropping single "We Made You" and "Crack A Bottle"
from his album
Relapse, I had no idea what he was talking about.
Not that I care, even if he does tout Elton John as one of his best
friends. I’m just not that fond of rap, be it black or white. I don’t
understand why it’s not called what it really is—poetry!

Bruno in jock strap and wings landing on Eminem at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards photo

As for the Awards itself, the highlight of the evening was when the
oh-so-openly gay Bruno flew over the crowd via a high-wire
dressed in angel wings and little else, his buttocks completely
exposed. Why, I have no frickin’ idea. He was supposed to give
out the Golden Popcorn trophy to Zac Efron for best leading man.

........................Photo of Sacha Baron Cohen as Bruno, his gay alter ego

The supposedly straight British comedian, Sacha Baron Cohen
(who gained fame playing Borat, the crazy Kazakh reporter), loves
to show up at odd places as his alter ego Bruno, a flamboyantly
gay Austrian fashion presenter based on a character in his
English TV series
Da Ali G Show. Eminem stormed out after Bruno’
s jock landed smack dab on his face. All staged, but funny
nonetheless. It certainly was a night of gaiety, I must say.

But who was that fool on the
Awards show who kept gyrating his
hips and repeating over and over, “Suck my golden popcorn d--
k”? and why the hell wasn’t he bleeped? I could’ve done without
him, whoever he was.

Was it just me or did the first episode of the
Tonight Show with
Conan O’Brien
fall flat? I miss the topical monologue of Jay Leno.
Now where am I going to get my news?
The View? And what’s up
with sidekick Andy Richter’s hair? Talk about a comb-forward! In
any case, O’Brien’s show lacked the pizzazz it had when he was
on early in the morning. I mean, where the hell was the
Masturbating Bear? Conan could’ve used him last night.

Photo of gay partners without benefit of marriage for 17 years, Mary Cheney,  Heather Poe

Cheney finally grew a pair and came out for gay marriage (state
level
only) at the National Press Club June 1, 1009: "I think that
freedom means freedom for everyone. As many of you know, one
of my daughters is gay, and it is something we have lived with for
a long time in our family. I think people ought to be free to enter
into any kind of union they wish. Any kind of arrangement they
wish. The question of whether or not there ought to be a federal
statute to protect this, I don't support. I do believe that. Historically
the way marriage has been regulated is at the state level. It has
always been a state issue and I think that is the way it ought to be
handled, on a state-by-state basis. . .."

“Children of Earth” will premiere on BBC1 and BBC America this
July as a week-long, five-night mini-series. Here’s a

video trailer.

BBC America also announced May 28, 2009 that it will air five new
specials from
Doctor Who later this year. "The Next Doctor,"
featuring David Morrissey and Dervla Kirwan, which appeared at
Christmas time last year in Britain, will premiere Saturday, June 27.
It will be followed in July by "
Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead." The
final three specials, the last to include 10th Time Lord played by
David Tennant, will air later in 2009 and early 2010.

Rumors abound that singer Susan Boyle has suffered an
emotional breakdown and has been admitted to a private clinic for
“exhaustion.” A
Britain’s Got Talent producer would only say she
was taking time off for “rest and recovery.” I can only imagine the
stress she is enduring.

OCTO-MOM SIGNS REALITY SHOW DEAL! SHIRTLESS PRINCE
HARRY VISITS NEW YORK! PHOTOS!
May 31, 2009
People  reported today that Octo-Mom, Nadya Suleman, has
signed with the British production company Eyeworks to film a
“quasi-reality” TV show. Her attorney Jeff Czech says instead of
having film crews around her house all the time, they will only
showcase special events, like birthdays.

..

.
Photo of Octo-Mom, Nadya Suleman, comparing her to Angelina Jolie. So, what's wrong
.......................................with wanting to look like a first class movie star?

So far, only Britain has signed on to broadcast the as yet untitled
program. Suleman also just inked a deal with Wendy Lee, who
“ghost wrote”
Life with My Sister Madonna by Christopher
Ciccone, to pen her autobiography. I wish her the best, because
with fourteen kids and being the victim of a lot of hateful hysteria,
I’m sure Nadya needs the money. Read the whole story
here.

Remember when you could watch videos on
MTV and current
affairs on
CNN? The news thing particularly grates on me, as the
last thing I need is Clark Howard telling me how to ask for
bargains when all I want are the latest headlines. At least he’s not
as obnoxious as his predecessor, Glen Beck, who now
(appropriately) resides at
Fox News, where he rants and raves
against Democrats and the decline of our country to his heart’s
content.

silence in a
YouTube.com video, in which he declared, "I ain't a
monster." Yeah. Just like Senator Larry Craig is “not gay.” If you
care, here’s a l
ink to the video.

TODD SANFIELD NEAR NAKED PHOTOS! KATHY GRIFFIN’S NEW
SHOW!
May 30, 2009

Photo showing his chisled pecs and abs prove French model Todd Sanfield is a rising star

Todd Sanfield is an up and coming model to watch out for.

I’m straying from my usual profiles of established actors, to report
on one of the most beautiful men on the planet today.

...............................Pensive photo of shirtless Todd Sanfield in Tetu Magazine

Formerly a med student, he is currently an IMG model, having
graced the covers of
Tetu, DNA, and OUT Magazine. Obviously, he
doesn't mind gay admirers.

He claims his mother as his biggest fan, saying she’s the one who
pushed him into pursuing a modeling career.

Admitting he’s outgoing and narcissistic, he hopes to return to
school and earn his medical degree.

All I have to say, is why go back to college when you can make a
fortune modeling?

Rush Limbaugh’s comparison of US Supreme Court nominee
Sonia Sotomayor to KKK leader David Duke is just plain
ridiculous! That man is full of crap, as usual. Thank God Obama is
standing by her side.

I couldn't believe it when I heard Susan Boyle lost to some dance
troupe on
Britain's Got Talent, but then it seems lately runnerups
turn out to be the real long-term winners in these contests! Can
you say Adam Lambert? Or Jennifer Hudson?

Funniest Line Ever: Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) on
30 Rock (still
the funniest sitcom on TV) to Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski):
“We’re the most important people here, right?” to which Jenna
replied, “Of course. We’re actors! If we didn’t exist, how would
people know who to vote for?”

Another Funniest Line Ever, same show: Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) to
nellie guy at reunion: I only said you were gay in high school to
make it easier for you to come out,” to which the guy retorted,
“Come out to what? This here is my wife and I’ll have you know
we’ve raised three beautiful dogs together. I’m so mad, I’ll have to
dance it off!”

Rod 2.0 reports that radical Iraqi Shiite Cleric Moqtada Sadr has
softened his hate rhetoric slightly. He now says people should still
revile gays and the "depravity" of homosexuality but not kill them.

The first of the last three episodes of the long-dead
Pushing
Daisies
airs tonight on ABC. Though the show was a bit
preposterous, it did showcase the talents of gay faves Swoosie
Kurtz and Kristin Chenoweth. No word if there are any remaining
installments of ABC’s other cancelled shows,
Dirty Sexy Money
and
Eli Stone hiding in limbo.

Kathy Griffin will start the new season of her over-the-top-gay
My
Life on the D List 5
on Bravo Monday June 8, 2009 10 E/P with
living legend Bette Midler guesting. Here’s the official blurb of the
“PLACE YOUR BETTE” episode: “Season five  begins with Kathy
wondering if this is the year she gets off the D-List. After all, she is
a two-time Emmy winner now. But a Grammy nod for her new
comedy album may just be the catalyst Kathy needs to finally get
her on the A-List. So Kathy, her assistant Tiffany and her tour
manager Tom drop by the Grammy headquarters to see if she
might be able to bribe the Grammy people into giving her the
award.

Later Kathy heads to Vegas to rub A-List elbows with the divine
Miss M – that would be Bette Midler. Bette makes Kathy an offer
she can’t refuse -- a cameo in her lavish stage show at Caesar’s
Palace! Against the clock, Kathy has to quickly learn the
choreography, improvise a costume and come up with a hilarious
zinger for her part in the show.” Don’t miss it if you can! Oh, well,
don’t worry. You can see it in reruns over and over again!
